Troubleshooting AC Motor Drives


Course Description
The participant will be able to troubleshoot and repair AC Motor Drives. The participant will learn the effects of Volts, Hertz and Electronic Fundamentals on Motor Operations. Troubleshoot Power Control Devices, Transistors, SCR's and GTO's. Three Phase Bridge Operation and faults. Be able to identify the different types of motors and Three Phase Field Rotation, Identify failures in converters and Troubleshoot AC Drives. (VVVF and PWM drives to the Board Level)

Prerequisite
Troubleshooting Electronics to the Board Level or demonstrated knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repair procedures.

Learning Outcome
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Know the effect of Volts, Hertz and electronic fundamentals on motor operation;
2. Troubleshoot Power Control Devices such as inverter components, transistors, SCRs and GTOs;
3. Identify Three Phase Bridge Operation and faults;
4. Know the different types of motors with an emphasis on Three-Phase Field Rotation;
5. Identify failures in Converters and Inverters; and
6. Troubleshoot AC drives (VVVF and PWM drives) to the board level.

Duration
40-hours

Student Enrollment
To ensure optimum hands-on experience and instructor/trainee interaction, a maximum class size of 12 students is recommended.
